Award Ceremony for the FY2024 TICAD Supplementary Budget Project: "Project for Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Peace through Comprehensive Empowerment of Women and Youth" (January 27, 2026)

 On January 27, Ambassador AKAMATSU Takeshi attended an award ceremony in Banjul, the capital of The Gambia, for the "Project for Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Peace through Comprehensive Empowerment of Women and Youth." The project is funded by the FY2024 TICAD supplementary budget and was organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Gambia office.

  The ceremony recognized outstanding ideas submitted under the theme of "innovative methods for women and youth to enhance agricultural productivity and increase income."

  During the event, Ambassador AKAMATSU highlighted that agriculture is a vital industry underpinning The Gambia’s economy and employment. He commended the initiative as a significant step toward regional development and the realization of sustainable peace. Furthermore, Ambassador expressed the Government of Japan’s commitment to contributing to the sustainable development of The Gambia by continuing to support the capacity building and social participation of youth and women in collaboration with international organizations such as the UNDP.
