Handover Ceremony of Japan’s FY2022 Grant Aid to The Gambia: “Project for Strengthening Border Management Capacity for the Promotion of Peace, Stability, and Security (in cooperation with IOM)” – January 26, 2026

On January 26, Ambassador AKAMATSU Takeshi attended the handover ceremony for the Fiscal Year 2022 Grant Aid project, "Project for Strengthening Border Management Capacity for the Promotion of Peace, Stability and Security (in collaboration with IOM)," held in Djiboro Village, the Republic of The Gambia.
 
Based on the principles of TICAD 9, Japan has introduced solar power and Wi-Fi technology through co-creation with Japanese companies, enabling 24-hour administrative services even in areas with limited infrastructure. Furthermore, Japan is contributing to the enhancement of public security and the prevention of terrorism and organized crime by expanding the Migration Information and Data Analysis System (MIDAS), strengthening cooperation with INTERPOL, and providing training for officials. Japan also contributes to fostering community trust and stability by supporting the mobility of approximately 820,000 people annually and providing electricity and water to around 130,000 local residents.
