Handover Ceremony for the Emergency Food and Nutrition Support Project for Flood-Affected Communities in The Gambia (January 28, 2026)
2026/1/28
On January 28, Ambassador AKAMATSU Takeshi attended the handover ceremony for the "Emergency Food and Nutrition Support for Flood-Affected Communities in The Gambia" project. The event, held in the capital city of Banjul, was hosted by the World Food Programme (WFP) Gambia Country Office and funded by Japan’s FY2024 supplementary budget.
Through the WFP, Japan is providing vital food and nutrition assistance to approximately 46,000 residents in communities impacted by flooding. Furthermore, the project aims to enhance disaster prevention capabilities—such as through the improvement of drainage systems—thereby contributing to improved food security and poverty reduction within the country.
