On January 28, in Banjul, the capital of The Gambia, Ambassador AKAMATSU Takeshi attended a handover ceremony hosted by the UNICEF Gambia Office. The ceremony marked the completion of two major initiatives: the FY2024 supplementary budget project, "Emergency Response to Neonatal, Infant, and Maternal Morbidity and Mortality Crisis caused by Climate Change and Price Hikes in the Republic of The Gambia," and the FY2024 TICAD supplementary budget project, "Transforming Education through Digital Technology in The Gambia."

In alignment with the principles of TICAD 9, the Government of Japan collaborated with UNICEF to provide emergency assistance to over 55,000 beneficiaries in the fields of health, nutrition, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene).

Furthermore, by leveraging solar power technology from Japanese companies, the project is digitalizing the educational environment in 122 rural schools. This initiative supports children—particularly young girls—in fostering independence and acquiring essential digital skills for the future.
