Signing ceremony for a Grant Contract for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects of Japan, entitled “ Project for supplying medical equipment to The Westfield Clinic”
On 10th March 2015, Ms. Takano, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in the Gambia, and Mr Tambadou, Chairman of Board of Trustees of The Westfield Clinic signed a Grant Contract for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects of Japan, entitled “Project for supplying medical equipment to The Westfield Clinic” (73.314 Euros) located at Serrekunda, Kanifing Municipality. Staff of the Clinic, as well as Representatives of The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, and the Kanifing Municipality participated in the ceremony.
Japan’s assistance will allow the Clinic to be equipped with a Hematology analyzer, an Electrolyte analyzer, a Clinical Chemistry analyzer, an HbA1C analyzer, an Ultrasound scanner, a Microscope and a Generator. Similar to other developing countries, trend of common cause on illness and death in the Gambia is currently changing from communicable diseases such as malaria, to non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and strokes. In order to deal with this social context, the Embassy will provide equipment which will enhance the diagnostic service and expand the medical examination and treatment. The equipment will also enable a more efficient and accurate medical diagnosis. This project will contribute to approximately 380,000 habitants of the Kanifing Municipality and peripheral rural residents, as well as to the yearly 15,000 patients of the Clinic.
